Welcome Workplace Prayer Warriors!

It is evident that one of God's primary reasons for designing work was to benefit humanity.  Work provides ways to develop responsibility, to care for others, to show love, to use our talents, to build self-esteem, and to improve living conditions.  Although each of these benefits is temporal, God has given us the privilege of cooperating with Him and glorifying Him through our work, which has eternal significance.  Enthusiasm and excellence mark the work of a Christian who has decided to glorify the Lord.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

- 2 Timothy 1:7

 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
-
Colossians 3:17

Consider the Christian witnesses you encounter every day on the job.  Perhaps it's the mechanic who repairs cars with excellence, or the janitor who cheerfully cleans up the trash or the nursery school worker who cares with compassion, or the waitress who always makes you feel as if you're her only customer, or the bus driver who greets every passenger with a smile and "Good Morning."  These people have all learned to serve God through their service to others.  We can conclude then that secretaries, doctors, nurses, lawyers, salesman, CEOs and CPAs can each do their work heartily, working for God rather than people.

A Christian's daily work may be described as any work that God gives us to do.  NO job is too menial to be discounted as God's work, for there are no insignificant jobs in His kingdom.  Paul reminded us in Colossians 3:23-24 that all work should be done as unto the Lord.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily,

 as to the Lord, and not unto men.

- Colossians 3:23

The original purpose of work is often obscured as we busy ourselves with making a living.  In many instances, work has taken on a life of its own -- apart from every other aspect of our lives.  We work hard at maintaining our work.  Every free moment is spent in planning, thinking, or worrying about our jobs.  Many of us have sacrificed families, friends, and even God on the altar of "career".

Come to me and I will give you rest
- all of you who work

so hard beneath a heavy yoke.

- Matthew 11:28

Many believers as well as unbelievers work hard because they: determine their self-esteem only by what they can accomplish; strive for acceptance by others in order not to be rejected; consider workaholism "normal".

Trust in the Lord instead.

Be kind and good to others;

 then you will live safely here in the land

and prosper, feeding in safety.

 - Psalms 37:3

Casting all your care upon Him;

for He careth for you.

- 1 Peter 5:7

Give your burdens to Him and thank Him for ALWAYS being there for you and ask forgiveness for NOT always being there for Him.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out
